1817 King George III Crowned Shield Gold Half Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.

The reverse depicts a Crowned Shield, while the obverse has the laureate head portrait of George III.

In 1817, after the Royal Mint had moved from the Tower of London to a site on Tower Hill, full production got underway and coinage changed from the old Guinea to the Sovereign.
